Who we are
Campbells Legal is a small, family-run law firm based in Upper Mount Gravatt on Brisbane’s southside, acting for Queensland families and businesses.
Peter Campbell has been advising Queenslanders on their legal affairs since his admission in 1981. He is now joined at the firm by his daughters, solicitors Mary Campbell and Madelaine Campbell. Between the three of them there is more than 75 years of combined experience in Queensland law, and Lenny Oudomphong supports the team as our paralegal.
Over four and a half decades we have helped thousands of people through the moments that matter — buying a first home, starting or selling a business, making a will, administering a parent’s estate, or working out what comes next after a separation.
A lot of our clients have been with us for decades. Many now bring their own children to us.
Why we have stayed small
We are a small firm by choice, and that choice shapes everything about how you will experience working with us.
You speak to the solicitor handling your matter. Not an account manager, not a rotating team, not whoever happens to pick up. When you call, you get the person who knows your file.
We know your history without looking it up. If we acted on your conveyance in 2011 and your father’s estate in 2019, that context is already in the room when you call about your will.
You get a straight answer quickly. Your matter does not get passed down a chain of junior solicitors, each of whom needs to read in before anything happens.
There are firms that can throw twenty lawyers at a problem, and there are matters where that is genuinely what you need. For most of what most people face, it is not — and the cost of that model lands on the client.
How we work with you
Our approach comes down to four commitments.
Straight answers, plain English
We will tell you what your options are and what we think you should do. Not a list of considerations for you to weigh up alone — an actual recommendation, in language you can use.
Legal writing has a habit of hedging everything into meaninglessness. We try hard not to do that.
Costs you can see coming
You will have a written costs agreement before we start any work. For straightforward conveyancing and simple wills, we can usually quote a fixed fee up front, so you know the number before you commit.
Nobody enjoys opening a legal bill and finding a surprise in it. We would rather have the awkward conversation about money at the beginning than at the end.
Efficient, not drawn out
We aim to get you the right result in the shortest sensible timeframe. Files get moved along rather than parked — which matters enormously in property matters with settlement dates, and matters just as much in estates, where delay usually means a family is left waiting.
We treat it as a family matter
Legal problems affect whole families, not just the person who signs the retainer. A separation involves children and grandparents. An estate involves siblings who have to keep speaking to each other afterwards. A business sale involves a spouse who has spent twenty years in that business too.

Who we act for
Two groups, mostly.
Queensland families — often across generations. The client who came to us for a conveyance in the 1990s is frequently the same client whose will we drafted in the 2010s and whose estate we now administer, with their children as clients in their own right.
Small and family businesses on Brisbane’s southside and further afield — the owner-operators, the family companies, the people who need commercial advice from someone who understands that the business and the family are not separate things.
Where we are
Our office is in Upper Mount Gravatt, convenient to the wider Brisbane southside — Mount Gravatt, Mansfield, Wishart, Holland Park, Carindale, Coorparoo, Sunnybank, Eight Mile Plains, Rochedale and the Logan corridor, with easy access from the Pacific and Gateway motorways.
That said, we act for clients throughout Queensland. Plenty of matters — wills, estates, commercial documents, conveyancing — are handled comfortably by phone, email and post, and distance is rarely the obstacle people expect it to be.
Frequently asked questions
Do you offer fixed fees? For straightforward conveyancing and simple wills, we can usually quote a fixed fee up front. For other matters you will always receive a written costs agreement setting out how fees are calculated before any work begins.
Will I deal with a solicitor or a paralegal? You will deal directly with the solicitor handling your matter. Our paralegal, Lenny, supports the team, but your matter is a solicitor’s responsibility from start to finish.
Are your solicitors qualified in Queensland? Yes. Peter, Mary and Madelaine are all admitted solicitors and full members of the Queensland Law Society. Peter was admitted in 1981, Madelaine in 2008, and Mary in 2010.
Do I need to come into the office? Not always. Many matters can be handled by phone and email, though some documents — wills in particular — need to be signed and witnessed in person.
How long has the firm been operating? Peter Campbell has practised in Queensland since 1981, and the firm has acted for Queensland families and businesses ever since.
Do you act for clients outside Brisbane? Yes. We act for clients throughout Queensland.
A word from our principal
When I was admitted in 1981, most of my clients came to me because someone they trusted had sent them. That hasn’t changed. We’ve never advertised our way to a client base — people come back, and they bring their families with them.
